ABCDE recognizes exceptional individuals at the annual Teacher Education Roundtable with the Teacher Educator and Education Advocate Awards:
The TEACHER EDUCATOR is awarded to someone at the school or university level who has distinguished themselves in partnering with a teacher education program in B.C. For example, a nominee may have provided exceptional mentoring of pre-service teachers for a number of years and/or may have been actively involved in partnership discussions or leadership on improvements to a post-secondary teacher education program.
The EDUCATION ADVOCATE is awarded to someone who has distinguished themselves as an advocate for Education. A nominee for this award might be one who has written thoughtful analyses of education or teacher education and/or who has consistently provided strong support for BC Education.

2024 Teacher Educator Award Winners
Bonnie Fuller, Senior Instructor, School of Education, University of Northern British Columbia
Bonnie Fuller’s extensive work in Education in the province of BC has included working with the BC Teacher’s Federation (BCTF), BC Teachers Council (BCTC), Teacher Education Program Approval & Review Framework (TEPARC), Teacher Education Program (TEP), and the Prince George District Teachers Association (PGDTA).
Ms. Fuller is the B.Ed. Coordinator at UNBC. She is passionate about working with students to develop their lesson plans Her own teaching has been in the curricular areas of Math and Science, areas where students often face learning challenges. “It’s my responsibility to introduce and encourage innovative, creative, and inspiring modes of learning,” she says. She embraces inquiry, experiential, and placed-based methods of instruction. She speaks to the flexibility of equity, diversity, inclusivity, and Indigeneity.
Ms. Fuller is not only an amazing instructor in the classrooms, but she also shines in outdoor learning that requires lived experience, skills, knowledge, and hands-on learning and teaching.
Ms. Fuller encourages students to be responsible for their learning, but most importantly, to be mindful of their health and wellness.
2024 Education Advocate Award Winner
Kerry Robertson, Teacher Education Manager, University of Victoria
Kerry Robertson has demonstrated outstanding leadership and advocacy in both theoretical and practice-based aspects of teacher education at local, provincial, and international levels.
As a key member of the TRUVic school-integrated program – a unique and highly valued component of the UVic Teacher Education Program (TEP) – since its inception in 2012, she played a crucial role in co-planning and teaching, providing invaluable insights and expertise to instructors and students alike.
Notably, Kerry led efforts to integrate Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) into UVic’s teacher education programs, securing grants to develop resources and experiences for candidates and instructors. Her commitment to EDI was further evidenced by her presentation at the World Federation of Associations of Teacher Education (WFATE) Conference in 2023, where she co-presented on decolonizing teacher education.
Kerry’s scholarly contributions have significantly advanced the field of teacher education, with publications and presentations drawing from her PhD dissertation on shared leadership and professional learning. She has consistently advocated for the ongoing development of teacher education to ensure the preparation of qualified educators for the future.
In her multifaceted roles as scholar, teacher educator, and administrator, Kerry has exemplified strength, grace, and dedication in advocating for education.
